Andrew Kettle
Andrew was born in Australia and first performed in public at the age of nine when he won first prize for Boy’s Vocal Solo in the City of Brisbane Eisteddfod, a prestigious vocal competition. Since then, both solo and with various groups, he has sung a wide variety of music in every kind of venue and on radio and television – as one of The McCauley Junior Singers on the weekly Australian T.V. variety show Studio 9, playing the role of Fagin in a local community production of the musical comedy “Oliver”, singing lead with gospel rock band Frontline for an audience of 3500 at the Uniting Church’s Youth Australia Fellowship, soloing with the Eddie Goldstein Quartet at the Hollywood Savoy Jazz Club etc. etc. After completing classical piano studies through the Trinity College of Music London, he began to take an interest in jazz, blues and gospel piano styles. As a pianist, he has performed with, among others, renowned Australian folk / blues singer Margret RoadKnight (both in Europe and Australia), American operatic tenor Charles Reid, American jazz singer Gilda Solve and French saxophonist Julien Petit. And it’s this eclecticism born of experience, plus an innate sense of phrasing, rhythm and swing that Andrew brings to the trio.
